Final Thoughts on Always Eat After 7 PM

I followed this diet plan for an entire month and I’m here to share my thoughts on the program and how it affected me. I went into this wanting to feel better, get higher quality sleep, feel more energized, and yes, lose a little bit of weight. Because that quarantine diet is real. But there is no reason why I couldn’t restructure my meal times, especially when it’s actually more convenient for me to eat later in the day. 

As a mom, I’m busy all day long putting the kids first in the priority list. They eat as I’m making my own plate. They take a bath after dinner and then I get to take my shower once they’re in bed. I read their books to them before I pick up my own. Even though I desperately want to watch my shows, any screen time we have during the day (and it’s minimal) has their shows on. And so it goes. And I generally don’t mind. After all, that’s my job and I’m happy to do it for these lovely children of mine.

I wanted to do something for me. I can’t ask my little ones to join me in intermittent fasting, but I can certainly try. And I’m glad I did. After this a month of this program, I feel better than I have in months. I have renewed energy that I haven’t felt in months. Although I go all day long, my body was wiped clean of energy. I was just going through the motions to finish the day the best way I could.

And sleep was a mystery to me. I was sleeping from midnight to 5 am for days on end, sometimes even less than that. Always Eat After 7 PM changed that. My husband actually tried his own version of intermittent fasting months before I even heard of this book, and at the time, I thought he was crazy. He was spouting all day long about how great he felt and how the numbers on the scale kept going down, yet I saw him eating everything he wanted (to a certain extent). It definitely didn’t look like he was depriving himself. At that time, I thought he was nuts. Now I know better.

I plan on continuing on this plan, but giving myself a little more grace moving forward if I want a more substantial breakfast or choose to indulge a little more than usual. It’s okay because I can get right back on track without feeling the guilt associated with other diet plans. We’ve traditionally been taught to avoid carbs, have an early dinner, and never eat before bed. But new scientific research is showing this may not be the most ideal!

The thing that sold me on this program is something straight from the book: “Late-night eating also curbs calorie intake the next day. In a four-week study, dieters added a snack to their daily regimen 90 minutes after dinner every night, and check this out: late-night eaters ate an average of 397 fewer calories per day.” Also this: “Water helps digest your food, expel wastes, regulate your temperature, protect your tissues, cushion your joints, and protect your spinal column, among many other vital functions. It is through water that hormones flow to the proper organs, that nutrients reach all cells, and that toxins are diluted and removed from the body.” And I have increased my water intake during this time too.
